Seeds of Hope Children Participate in Science Magic

On March 18th, the Chemistry and Physics Department at Barry University, hosted a “Science Magic Showfor the young participants of the Seeds of Hope Program spearheaded by ADSOE-LHD The show featured several chemistry and physics demonstrations and was followed by hands-on science activities, including how to conduct science experiments using readily available household items.  

Participants got to make slime, build a lava lamp, and learn many principles of chemistry and physics including electricity, acid-base chemistry, gas laws, separations, and fluorescence. From designing experiments to leading demonstrations and activities, chemistry and physics faculty, staff and students joined forces to make this a spectacular show.  

After lunch, the Seeds of Hope program participants attended an expressive arts workshop facilitated by Maria Theresa Barbist and Gabriela Garcia, artists-in-residence at the Bakehouse Art Complex, and Ekaterina Elagina, Seeds of Hope Program director. At the workshop, the children created collaborative mixed media 2D artworks expressing their feelings towards the current situation in their home country, Ukraine, and hopes for the future.
