The Honors Program at Barry is designed to challenge, enrich, and prepare especially motivated students to pursue their fullest potential. By participating in a rigorous curriculum rounded out by an array of edifying and interactive events, students explore crucial issues that we face in our daily lives. Students are given the space for discussion and debate and the opportunity to learn from experts in their fields. The Office of Financial Aid can assist with determining eligibility for the Honors Program.

The Monsignor William Barry Memorial Library is located in the center of the beautiful Miami Shores campus of Barry University. The Library is named in loving memory of Monsignor William Barry, one of the founders of Barry University and an inspirational figure in the Catholic Church within the Archdiocese of Miami. The extensive Library research collections include more than 950,000 physical items, over 40,000 print and on-line journal subscriptions, and several thousand on-line books and streaming video resources.

We are an NCAA Division II school and a member of the Sunshine State Conference with 12 varsity teams, including men's baseball, basketball, golf, soccer and tennis; and women's basketball, golf, rowing, soccer, softball, tennis and volleyball. So far, we've won 24 NCAA championships, had 338 All-Americans, 413 Scholar All-Americans, and nine NCAA "Women of the Year" finalists, the most of any Division II school. Not bad at all, but we're going for more.

Nursing Practice, Post-Master’s DNP

The post-master’s Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) at Barry University is a practice-focused, terminal degree designed for advanced practice nurses seeking to expand their expertise in clinical leadership and evidence-based care. This program builds on a nurse’s prior education and specialization, requiring applicants to hold a Master of Science in Nursing from an accredited program and national board certification in their specialty area. Most students complete the program in as little as 12 months of full-time study.

Healthcare employers across Florida seek Barry University’s nursing graduates because of the program’s reputation of producing quality nurses.

Admissions

  1. A Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) from a regionally accredited or internationally recognized school.
  2. A minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale in graduate study.
  3. Current license to practice as a registered nurse or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN).
  4. Have a valid and current national certification in an advanced nursing practice specialty (which attests to the minimum clinical hours for the specialty). If applicant is not nationally certified, certification must be achieved within one year of starting the program.
  5. CV/Resume.
  6. One essay with a clear statement of goals and expectations for entering the DNP program and how the student anticipates this degree will benefit the profession of nursing and his/her community.
  7. One essay describing the type of clinical project the student plans to undertake in the DNP program.
  8. Three letters of recommendation—one addressing clinical competence and two addressing academic ability.
  9. Transcript evidence of satisfactory completion (grade B or higher) of an undergraduate or graduate nursing research course.
  10. Transcript evidence of satisfactory completion (grade B or higher) of a statistics course, which included descriptive and inferential methods, within five years of program start date.

Licensure & Certification

Graduates of Barry University’s CCNE and COA-accredited DNP programs are academically prepared to:

  • Sit for the national certification examination aligned with their specialty (FNP or AGACNP)
  • Apply for Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (APRN) licensure through the Florida Board of Nursing or the Board of Nursing in their state of practice

Accreditation

The School of Nursing maintains accreditation for its undergraduate (BSN), master's (MSN), post-graduate certificates (ARNP), and doctoral (DNP) nursing programs through the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
