The Barry University Alumni Board of Directors (ABOD) is a volunteer advisory board composed of alumni leaders who are passionate about strengthening the Barry community. Serving as a bridge between the University and more than 78,000 alumni worldwide, Board members help shape alumni engagement, inspire volunteerism, advocate for Barry's mission, and support student success through philanthropy and service.

Together, we ensure that being a Buccaneer doesn't end at graduation, it continues for a lifetime.

Our Commitment Together

Board members serve as ambassadors for Barry University by committing to meaningful engagement, philanthropy, and advocacy.

Time Commitment

Board members typically dedicate 20–30 hours annually, including:

  • Four quarterly Board meetings
  • Committee meetings
  • Participation in at least three University or Alumni events
  • Occasional volunteer opportunities

Engagement

Board members strengthen the alumni community through active participation and leadership.

  • Attend or participate in a minimum of three Barry University events each year.
  • Build relationships with fellow alumni and help identify future alumni leaders by nominating at least one prospective Board member.

Philanthropy & Advocacy

Board members help advance Barry University's mission and strengthen its alumni community.

  • Fulfill an annual fundraising commitment of $500 through personal giving and/or fundraising efforts.
  • Champion Barry University's mission, strategic priorities, and alumni community.
  • Protect and promote the interests and reputation of Barry University.

Selection Process

  1. Submit an Interest Form.
  2. Meet with Alumni Relations staff.
  3. The ABOD Membership Committee reviews all candidates.
  4. Recommendations are presented to the Alumni Board.
  5. Selected candidates are invited to join for the upcoming Board term.
