Biography
J.J. has spent the past 20 years working in philanthropy, helping organizations engage supporters, elevate their impact, and bring important missions to life. He currently serves as Senior Director of Development at Barry University, where he leads strategic philanthropic initiatives supporting student scholarships, academic programs, special events, faculty research, and the university endowment. Working in close partnership with the Vice President for University Advancement, he led the development effort that secured the largest monetary gift the university has received in the past 20 years, a $2 million commitment.
As a scholar–practitioner, he draws on research in leadership, organizational culture, and AI strategy, alongside two decades of professional practice, to help nonprofit and higher-education institutions build ethical, human-centered, high-performing operations that strengthen donor relationships and drive sustainable revenue.
His work is shaped by the belief that giving, of time, talent, or resources, expands purpose and enables organizations to meet the evolving needs of the communities they serve. Throughout his career in higher education, healthcare, and human services, he has advanced mission-critical initiatives by cultivating strong partnerships, aligning funders with value-driven projects, and designing strategies that support both organizational growth and donor satisfaction.
As a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE), he remains engaged in the profession through service, research, and invited presentations and panel discussions. Beyond his professional commitments, he enjoys reading, cooking, traveling, and spending time on the beaches of Miami, Florida, where he lives.
