On Thursday, April 10, 2025, Barry University hosted Perspectives on Christian Nationalism: Unpacking the Religious, Political, and Cultural Phenomenon in America, a thoughtful and educational evening that brought together students, faculty, staff, and community members to examine one of the most complex and widely discussed topics shaping contemporary American society.
The event was organized by the Adrian Dominican Institute for Mission and Leadership in collaboration with the Campus Democracy Project, with support from the Department of Theology and Philosophy. The program was designed to foster informed inquiry, respectful dialogue, and critical reflection on the intersection of religion, democracy, and public life.
Documentary Screening
The evening began with a screening of the documentary God and Country, which explored the growing influence of Christian Nationalism within the U.S. political system and examined its implications for democratic institutions and religious freedom. The film provided historical and contemporary context, setting the foundation for deeper conversation and analysis.
Panel Discussion and Dialogue
Following the screening, a multidisciplinary panel of scholars and community leaders engaged participants in a facilitated discussion that examined Christian Nationalism through theological, political, historical, and sociological perspectives. Panelists explored questions such as the relationship between Christianity, American nationalism, and democracy, as well as how individuals and institutions are responding to these dynamics today.
