Sponsorship Gathering in Adrian, Michigan

Sponsorship Gathering in Adrian, Michigan

In April 2025, faculty and staff from Barry University joined colleagues from Siena Heights University at the Adrian Dominican Sisters’ campus in Adrian, Michigan, for a Sponsorship Gathering focused on mission, leadership, and the Adrian Dominican charism. Hosted at the Weber Retreat and Conference Center, the gathering offered participants dedicated time away from campus to engage in shared learning, dialogue, and reflection on their roles as stewards of mission within Adrian Dominican-sponsored institutions.

The experience introduced participants to the history, values, and evolving life of the Adrian Dominican Sisters, grounding institutional mission in a living tradition. Through presentations and guided conversations, participants explored the Adrian Dominican charism as a practical framework for leadership—one that emphasizes truth-seeking, inclusive community, ethical decision-making, and a commitment to the common good. Time for individual and group reflection supported participants in connecting these values to their professional responsibilities at Barry University.

A key strength of the gathering was the opportunity to build relationships across roles and institutions. Faculty and staff engaged in small-group discussions and shared meals with colleagues from both universities, as well as Sisters and Associates who have served at Barry and Siena Heights. These conversations highlighted the many ways Adrian Dominican charism is expressed across academic, administrative, and student-facing work, and reinforced a shared sense of purpose across the Adrian Dominican community.

The gathering concluded with participants identifying concrete ways to carry the Adrian Dominican charism forward in their daily work and institutional leadership. As higher education professionals, participants returned to their campuses with renewed clarity about their individual and collective contributions to mission, strengthened relationships with colleagues, and a deeper connection to the shared Adrian Dominican identity that unites Barry University and Siena Heights University.
