Program Overview Marine Biology (BS.BIOM)
Earning your Marine Biology degree in South Florida allows you to explore and learn from several diverse marine ecosystems including the Atlantic Ocean, Biscayne Bay and the Florida Everglades. Our region is also home to the only living coral reef in the continental United States, presenting you with ample research possibilities.
As a student of marine biology, you’ll gain field experience that will prepare you for a number of career goals that focus on the marine environment, including work with governmental agencies, teaching, graduate study, and various careers in research.
Unique HabitatsThe South Florida environment provides opportunities for you to study marine biology in exciting and unique areas, including the Atlantic Ocean, Biscayne Bay, the Florida Everglades, and the only living reef in the continental United States.
Field Study and InternshipsYou’ll find excellent internship and field study opportunities with a variety of marine institutions in the Greater Miami/Ft. Lauderdale Metropolitan area. These positions allow you to deepen your exploration of the subjects that most interest you.
Research with FacultyOur on-campus, marine biology research labs enable interested students to gain valuable research experience by working alongside faculty mentors.
Marine LabsThe biology program is home to a research aquarium facility, which includes saltwater and freshwater fish tanks that are used for both in-class learning and faculty research.
