Message from the Dean

There is no better time than now to be a health care professional. You may be just starting your professional life, or deciding to enhance your already established career with an advanced degree. Regardless of where you are on your pathway, the faculty and staff of Barry University’s College of Nursing and Health Sciences are here to help make your dream a reality. We all extend a warm, sunny South Florida welcome as you embark on your journey.

I invite you to explore our website and learn more about our nationally-recognized College. Healthcare education in the Dominican intellectual tradition has been a part of Barry University since its early beginnings in 1940. The College of Health Sciences was established in 2008 when our School of Nursing and our School of Natural and Health Sciences merged. This union has made it easier for our students to engage in scholarship across many disciplines. After all, the heart of what we do is knowledge; professional collaboration enhances how we learn.

We currently offer 14 core programs with diverse pathways to help you attain your degree. The degrees we offer, which vary by program, range from traditional undergraduate pre-licensure degrees all the way to doctoral degrees. Many of our programs are offered in locations throughout the Sunshine State. We are therefore able to engage students through traditional classroom experiences as well as synchronous videoconferencing and on-line formats.

Our mission is the same in each of our programs: foster your individual transformation. Our practitioner-scholars will provide you with the environment and resources you will need to learn, reflect, and engage in the service of health care. You will be exposed to a vibrantly diverse intellectual community. You will also have the opportunity to engage in experiential learning as our expert faculty take on some of society’s demanding challenges: life-altering diseases, social and economic disparities, bioethics, human rights, and environmental sustainability, As a result, you will graduate from Barry with the skills, knowledge, and values needed to engage in communal transformation. The health care system, our nation, and our world will all be a better place because of you.

If you are a prospective student, or the parent of a prospective student, the CNHS team of admission’s counselors and financial aid advisors are available to answer your questions via email, telephone, ora visit and tour of our campus. A Barry education, with the assistance of our many grant, scholarship, and loan programs, can be VERY affordable, whether you are a Florida resident or from out-of-state.

Thank you for taking time to visit and learn about our College. With the backing of an exceptional faculty and several thousand graduates who serve as leaders throughout the U.S., I am committed to ensuring that the College of Nursing and Health Sciences thrives as a premier center of learning and discovery in healthcare.
