ATHENS, Ga. -- Barry University sophomore teammates Eduardo Alfonzo and Renato Lombardi will play for the Southern Intercollegiate Championships Division III bracket singles title Monday. The caveat is, the Buccaneer pair will play for the title in Miami Shores at 3 p.m.

After completing their impressive runs at the University of Georgia prestigious fall tournament -- they combined for nine wins with Lombardi receiving a first-round bye -- the Bucs elected to play the final on Barry's campus at Buccaneer Tennis Center.

Alfonzo defeated Charlotte's Alex Calot, 6-4 7-6. in Sunday's semifinals. Lombardi beat Clemson's Fernando Sanchez, 6-3, 6-3, in the other semifinal. The two Buccaneers will play for the championship Monday to complete the four-day event at the oldest fall men's tennis events in the country.

Barry senior Leo Vivas was a 7-6, 6-2 winner over Virginia Tech's Joao Monteiro in the Division I singles bracket consolation. Bucs freshman Franco Echenique had a quick run of it in his 6-2, 6-1 win over College of Charleston's Garrett Gordon in the Divison II singles bracket consolation.

The tournament features top players from NCAA Division I and II schools.
