Barry University celebrates 450 Years of Shakespeare (1564-2014)

The Departments of English & Foreign Languages and Fine Arts would like to invite the community and Barry students, faculty and administration to join us to celebrate the birth anniversary of William Shakespeare on October 18-27,2013. Scholarly lectures, music performances, dramatic readings, a movie night and a theater production of Romeo and Juliet as well as other amusing and interesting events will take place on the Barry campus during ten days.

The opening night will take place at the Cor Jesu Chapel on Friday, October 18 at 7:00 pm.  Dr. Lillian Schanfield, Professor at the Department of English & Foreign Languages and a Shakespeare specialist, will give a presentation on Shakespeare and his play Romeo and Juliet. Performances of musical pieces by Prokofiev and Tchaikovsky and dramatic readings of Shakespeare’s sonnets and soliloquies will follow. The program will continue with the outdoor projection of the film “Romeo and Juliet” directed by Baz Luhrmann at the Fine Arts Quadrangle at 8:30 pm.
