Graduate HSA Program Director chosen to present at 15th Annual World Conference on Lung Cancer

Barry University Graduate HSA Program Director Dr. Evelio Velis, Ph.D., is a contributing team member of a group of lung cancer researchers. The research team’s abstract, “Exploring Disparities in Health Care Outcomes in minority populations with Small (SCLS) and Non-small cell lung cancers (NSCLC),” was accepted for presentation during the epidemiology session of the 15th World Conference on Lung Cancer (WCLC).

The WCLC is the world’s largest seminar dedicated to lung cancer and other thoracic malignancies. More than 7,000 delegates from across the world in the field of thoracic oncology will attend the event scheduled to convene October 27 – 30, 2013 in Sydney, Australia. The conference is sponsored by the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer.

Dr. Velis is an associate professor of administration at Barry in addition to his program director duties. He is an active scholar with more than 30 years of healthcare experience as a physician, administrator, and researcher. Dr. Velis has published and presented studies related to health services, health disparities, diversity/social justice, and other health related events at national and international conferences. Dr. Velis’ primary research interests are in the area of health services, public health and education.
