HOLLYWOOD, Fla. -- Barry University men's basketball team volunteered its time at the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society recently.

Players and coaches assisted the LLS in the days leading up to the Light the Night Walk at Bayfront Park by helping the staff organize, pack and load materials to be shipped to the event site. They helped with the shipment of t-shirts, signs, balloons, food, water and other supplies.

"Part of Barry University mission is to serve," Buccaneers first-year men's basketball coach Butch Estes said. "We, as coaches and players, are honored to have the opportunity to help others. Our recent service to 'Light the Night Walk' for leukemia is a project that is near to our hearts. This program is proud to support a project which has been so wonderful in helping Cesar Odio, our former coach, in his recovery. We look forward to continuing to support this organization in the future. In the spring, we hope to be involved in some other projects."

Barry's 18-year coach Cesar Odio, who has moved into an athletic administration role, has battled leumkemia twice. He participated in the Light the Night Walk.
