A Message from the Provost

Dear Members of the Barry Community,

I am writing to let you know that Dr. Terry Piper has announced her retirement effective June 30, 2015. Dr. Piper has served as Dean of the Adrian Dominican School of Education since 2006. Under her leadership, the School of Education streamlined graduate offerings creating more coherent course sequencing for the graduate degree programs, and also added a doctoral degree program in Organizational Learning and Leadership. Other accomplishments include the integration of the School Psychology program into the School of Education. This relocation has led to greater collaboration among faculty well versed in the field of education resulting in an enhanced learning experience for students in the program. In collaboration with Dr. Callahan, Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences, Dr. Piper and her faculty revised the undergraduate curriculum into a 4+1 format leading to both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree. The partnership, forged by Dr. Piper, with our K-12 Teachers Alliance (KTA) partners has enable students in multiple locations around the tri-county area to earn graduate degrees.

While at Barry, Dr. Piper has continued to be an active scholar publishing both books and scholarly articles with regularity. I am grateful to Dr. Piper for her many contributions to the Adrian Dominican School of Education and to the University.

There will be a national search conducted this year to fill the position. Dr. John McFadden, Dean of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences has kindly agreed to chair the search committee.

Linda M. Peterson, Ph.D.
