Barry nursing students awarded scholarships from the Haitian American Nurses Association of Florida

Sarah Jeanty and Mara-Joanne Derinor, students in Barry University’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program, were each awarded a scholarship funding from the Haitian American Nurses Association of Florida (HANA).

Jeanty and Derinor, along with Drs. Maureen Shaw and Corvette Yacoob, recently attended the 34th Annual Scholarship Fundraising Gala to accept the scholarships and to represent Barry University. The students were selected by the HANA Panelists/Education Committee for scholarship awards.

In order to receive the one-time scholarship, students must meet the following requirements: be of Haitian decent; be enrolled in a nursing program; have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0; submit a written essay of at least one page describing the reasons why he or she has selected nursing as a profession; and commit to volunteer at least 20 hours to HANA organized activities within three months of being awarded the scholarship.
