Be sure to join us as School of Business professor Dr. Dale Hartz and his Barry Banter co-hosts welcome special guest Tony Lopez, the Deputy Town Manager at the Town of Miami Lakes. Students who tune in will get some unique insights into the ins and outs of local government, community policy, and business partnerships.
Tony has worked in local government for over 16 years, and he’s in charge of a lot. He’s responsible for the implementation of all town operational initiatives and policies: he oversees the Police Department, Parks and Recreation Department, Public Works and CIP Department, Communications and Community Affairs Department, Building and Code Enforcement Department, emergency management, and strategic planning and innovation. Tony has also provided the vision for major community development projects in parks, beautification, infrastructure, public safety and mobility. He’s a recipient of several national, state, and local awards for his work in parks and recreation, government administration, and is a Certified Parks and Recreation Executive.
Tony is passionate about community building and all things sports. He’s a graduate of Leadership Miami, the Miami Foundation's Miami Fellows leadership program, and most recently was selected to participate as a part of Leadership Florida. He has a master’s degree in Parks and Recreation Management from Florida International University and a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Sports Administration from Saint Thomas University.
Tony’s currently in his final year of his doctorate in Business Administration at FIU, and he’s working on research focused on understanding what makes public-private partnerships successful for government agencies. He has also been an active adjunct lecturer at FIU in their Recreation and Sports Management program for the past ten years.
