DADE CITY, Fla. -- Barry University is within three strokes of their rival entering the final day of the Sunshine State Conference men's golf tournament.

The No. 2-ranked Buccaneers shot 282, cutting eight strokes off the Round 1 total, finish the second round of the league championships at 572. No. 1 Nova Southeastern shot 281 Monday, and has a 36-hole total of 569 on the 7,094-yard Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club course.

Lynn is third, seven strokes behind the Bucs in the nine-team tournament hosted by Saint Leo.

Barry's Jared Dalga shot 1-under 71 in the second round, and finds himself tied for second with Eckerd's Jeff Evanier and Nova's Hunter O'Mahony at 141. Nova's Ricardo Celia has a two-stroke lead in the tournament, entering Tuesday's final round.

Barry's Scott Smyers is tied for fifth with Lynn's Daniel Young after shooting a 4-under 68 Monday to enter the clubhouse three strokes off the lead.

Dalga had five birdies in the second round, including three on the front nine to maintain his perch near the top of the leaderboard. He has 10 birdies in the tournament. Smyers eagled the 549-yard, par-5 second hole Monday, and had five birdies to put together the low round in the 36 holes thusfar in the 45-player field. Smyers has six birdies and an eagle in the first two rounds.

Barry's Adam Svensson is tied for eighth after shooting 2-under 70 in Monday's second round, making the Buccaneers the only team with three golfers in the top 10. Svensson had four birdies for the second straight day.

Bucs senior Simon Forsslund shot 77, falling five shots back of his first-round score after Monday's one-birdie effort. He is tied for 21st. Fellow senior Marcus Segerstrom bounced back from a tough first day with a 1-over 73, anchored by two front-nine birdies and a run of nine straight pars on the back.
