MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—As the summer baseball season heats up, a number of Buccaneers are having outstanding campaigns.

Tyler Petsch’s Moorhead City Marlins took a 10-2 whipping from Team USA, but the Barry rising senior more than held his own. Petsch worked the last two innings and fanned five of seven batters faced, allowing just one hit in two shutout frames. He struck out the side in the eighth, then after a ground out and a single, struck out the last two batters.

Marlins’ teammate and fellow rising senior Calvin Rayburn currently leads Moorhead with a 3-1 record and 28 strikeouts in 31.2 innings.

In the New England Collegiate Baseball League, rising seniors Joe Iorio and Adrian English have the Newport Gulls in first place in the east. Iorio has a 1.58 ERA and is averaging nearly a strikeout per inning. English leads the team with a .364 average and is riding a six-game hitting streak.

Rising sophomore Joeanthony Rivera earned honorable mention on the pitcher of the week list after he earned a win and a save in three shutout appearances, fanning six in 4.0 innings for the North Adams Steeplecats. Overall, in 7.2 innings, he has a 1.17 ERA and 12 strikeouts against just one walk.

Adrian Benitez has been one of the top starters for the Saratoga Brigade. In three starts, he has a 3.60 ERA in 15.0 innings and 14 strikeouts.

In the Cape Cod League, rising junior Sheehan Planas-Arteaga has a .391 on-base percentage and has scored five runs in 14 games.

Rising sophomore Mike Diaz is lighting up the Ohio Valley League with the Fulton Generals. He leads the team with 24 hits for a .329 average. He has two doubles, two homers and has scored and driven in 13 runs.

Rising senior Tyler Kellmann, who got a late start to the season due to summer school, has signed on with the Leesburg Lightning in the Florida Collegiate Summer League.
