MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Barry University’s No. 1-ranked men’s tennis team shut out the University of Nebraska Omaha, 9-0, Monday to improve to 15-2 this season.
It was the third match since Thursday for the Buccaneers, who recorded their third shutout of the season. The Mavericks, who were coming off a win at nearby St. Thomas University, fell to 5-9.
Ahmed Triki and Ollie Lemaitre, who recently received the No. 1 doubles ranking in the South Region, beat Adam Dockery and Eric McKnight, 8-5, at the top pairs flight. Romain Costamagna and Leo Vivas, who are ranked No. 10 in the South, won by the same score at No. 2 doubles, beating Tyler Mercier and Nathan Greteman. Kevin Sielmann and Renato Lombardi picked up an 8-3 victory over Erik Anderson and Colin Buckley at No. 3.
Four of the six singles matches were decided by 6-2, 6-1 verdicts.
Ranked No. 2 in the South, Triki beat Mercier, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 1 singles for his eighth win of the year – all at the top flight. Eduardo Alfonzo defeated Dockery, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 2. It was Alfonzo’s third win of the season in four matches. Franco Echenique improved to 5-0 with a 6-2, 6-1 win over McKnight at No. 3.
At No. 4 singles, Lemaitre beat Buckley, 2-6, 6-3, 10-5, at No. 4 singles. He is 3-0 at No. 4 singles, and 6-2 overall. Sielmann, ranked No. 41 in the nation, was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over James McManus at No. 5. Sielmann is now 10-1. Lombardi remained perfect in picking up his 10th win of the season, beating Anderson, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 6.
The Bucs will play at Rollins in their first Sunshine State Conference match since Feb. 28 on Saturday and at NCAA Division I Central Florida on Sunday. Both matches begin at 10 a.m. in the Orlando area.
