Spring Break COVID-19 Protocols

Spring Break COVID-19 Protocols

Ahead of a well-deserved break next week, we want to reiterate protocols for returning to campuses and locations after traveling or attending gatherings locally with individuals outside of your “quarantine bubble.”

It is important to note that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) currently advises against non-essential travel. Please review their updated guidance regarding travel and various modes of transportation and accommodations.

The measures below are reflective of current conditions and a careful analysis of the optimal steps for promoting health and safety at all Barry University locations.

COVID-19 Testing for Returning to Any Location

It is the expectation that individuals in the following categories will have a COVID-19 test 2-3 days BEFORE returning to a Barry campus or location for in-person activity:

  • All residential students who left campus for break.
  • Anyone who traveled over the break domestically or internationally, utilizing any form of public transportation. All travelers should also refer to CDC guidance
  • Anyone who attended a gathering of any size with individuals outside of their quarantine “bubble.” Note that this includes gatherings with immediate family members if you are not currently residing with them during the pandemic.

The above individuals should also have a follow-up COVID-19 test 5 days AFTER travel. Should either test come back positive, individuals must follow isolation protocols and complete a COVID-19 initial notification form.

During Spring Break Student Health Services will continue COVID-19 testing for students, faculty and staff by appointment.

Additional Information for Anyone who Travels

Anyone who returns from travel should stay home (or in their residential space) to the extent possible and avoid contact with people at higher risk for severe illness. This should continue for 10 days AFTER traveling. If a COVID-19 test is negative on day 5 after travel, the quarantine period may be shortened from 10 days to 7 days.

We hope you enjoy a safe and restful break!
