Physics Professor, Dr. John F. Goehl, Awarded Professor Emeritus at BarryU.

Physics Professor, Dr. John F. Goehl, Awarded Professor Emeritus at BarryU.

Congratulations to Barry’s Dr. John F. Goehl on his professor emeritus status. This well-deserved honor highlights his commitment to the university and the advancement of physics teaching, research, and service.

Dr. Goehl received his bachelor in science and doctorate in physics from the University of Notre Dame. Among other institutions, he taught at Villanova University, Rosemont College, Florida International University, and University of Miami. Dr. Goehl started his tenure at Barry University in 1977 -- and in his 43 years at Barry never missed a day of work.

At that time, he was the only physics instructor at the university and developed what still stands as the core of our physics curriculum. He also participated in the development of a physics minor and the pre-engineering and dual degree programs and served as a mentor to new faculty members.

Dr. Goehl has been a regular reader and contributor to journals dedicated to solving mathematical problems. A prolific physics researcher, he co-authored two studies, with both Barry’s Dr. Giannotti and undergraduate students, which were published in peer-reviewed science journals.

An avid advocate for the advancement of physics studies, Dr. Goehl has been an active volunteer, fostering K-12 student's interest in physics through lectures and demonstrations. He works with elementary students at St. Rose of Lima and has judged their Science Fair projects. Moreover, he participated in the organization of a physics competition during the annual Chemistry and Physics Tournament for high school students and supported this event since its inception in 1998.

Dr. Goehl, we thank you for your service and wish you all the best on this new journey!
